Karoonda Hereford Stud

Over fifty years of breeding commercially relevant mountain cattle. We are committed to producing structurally sound, productive cattle with great temperament and positive carcase traits.

Our Background

Our family has bred Hereford cattle since 1970, and we continue to because we love the breed and are firm believers in what they can offer the industry. The proven weight for age results they can achieve off pasture and ability to perform in any crossbreeding program are considerable strengths of the breed. We built our stud from cows purchased of Curlew, Hobartville, Craigielea, Ardno and Lowana Studs. Our first stud sire was Mawarra Emerald gifted to Paul as a 21st birthday present from his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Helen.
Since those early days our family has continued to grow, as has our stud, going from producing 6 to 8 bulls a year, to having an on-property sale selling over 60 bulls annually. We remain focused on producing cattle that can perform under commercial conditions: structurally sound, fertile, high yielding, with a strong IMF and EMA and we want all this wrapped up in a good-natured, cosmetically attractive package.

Female Herd

Our female herd is the backbone of our operation. Having a consistent, even line of productive cows allow us to use a diverse range of outside genetics and still maintain an even line of quality calves. Females are the future of our stud, the bulls
are the product.

Stud Sires

We source stud sires from all over Australia and internationally to advance our breeding program and help us reach our production goals. By continually sourcing new sires we can also offer sale bulls with different genetic and trait strengths to complement a range of breeding programs.
